BGL, BBL, what do these letters mean? Well, a BBL is a Brazilian butt lift, and a BGL is a butt graft lift. So they’re subtly different. Both involve using a little bit of fat. But the BGL is when we’re actually doing a lift procedure as well. So what are some of the problems with BBL? So number one, you’re using just fat alone, so lots and lots of fat into the buttock. It actually has the highest mortality rate of all cosmetic procedures because of a problem called fat emboli, so it’s potentially fatal. And also I think long-term, even though larger bottoms might be having their time in the sun at the moment, long-term, who knows what fashions are gonna be in 10, 20, 30 years? Having an enormous buttock that’s out of balance with your overall shape can be potentially very problematic. And that’s why my preference is to do the BGL, which is the butt graft lift. It’s a great procedure because it lifts the skin, as well as using smaller amounts of fat to sort of help with the volume loss after massive weight loss. And in my mind it makes much more sense to do a BGL versus a BBL because it’s both safer, you get a more athletic-shaped buttock, and a better long-term result.
Choosing the right procedure and surgeon is important. I believe that helping my clients make informed decisions is key to a great result so if you have a question or would like to know more about something specific, please let me know – Regards, Alex.
